by Al Almeda “And now, let the weak say I am strong; let the poor say I am rich because of what the Lord has done for us….” as these words were sang with Don Moen leading, the BASS Church Workers Convention kicked-off with an attitude of gratitude to a God full of wisdom and knowledge whose plan for each individual and each ministry is to grow and to be fruitful.
As we anticipated a weekend full of workshops and sessions that will encourage us and our ministries, Dr. John Townsend, a clinical psychologist and family therapist, started by encouraging us that God’s plan for our ministries is to grow and be enriched. In order to do so, we have to learn to flex our “NO” muscles so we could keep the main thing the main thing. We also need to have a group of trusted individuals whom we can be transparent with; Individuals who would stand by you no matter what; individuals whom you could grow old with in the ministry. Friday night highlighted Paul Earl Sheppard, Senior Pastor of Abundant Life Christian Fellowship in Mountain View, who encouraged us to on what the Master has to say because His plan for us will never be thwarted. There might be some re-directions on the way as we falter, but He will get us there. For some, getting there might be quick, for some it might be slower. Everything depends on how much we empty ourselves of our own human resources and learn to trust and obey more. Francis Chan, pastor of Cornerstone Church and President of Eternity Bible College in Simi Valley spoke during the Saturday session. He focused on 2Chronicles 15 where King Asa led Israel to reform. He obeyed the word of the Lord when he was told “But as for you, be strong in the Lord and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.” Jen-jen Kagawan said, “I was so encouraged not to give up until it is over. Imagine if Billy Graham gave up in preaching the Gospel; imagine if Pastor Reuel gave up in planting the Vallejo church; imagine if you give up.”
What a blessing it was to be encouraged to grow in all areas of our lives and to mature together with other believers. With this blessing comes a challenge to continue on and never give up until God is done with us. “Let us not be weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9). Press on and see how God will grow our ministries and our church as a whole for the purpose of furthering His kingdom! |
